When our parents grow old, they don’t just need care, they need love, patience, and dignity. The same love they gave us when we were young is what they now deserve in return.
Let them grow old with kindness. Let them tell their stories, even if they repeat them. Remember how many times they listened to your endless talks as a child? Listen with the same patience.
Let them win small arguments. They let you win countless ones just to see you smile. Let them enjoy visits with friends, just as they encouraged you to build friendships.
When they speak to their grandchildren, let them feel that joy. In those little ones, they see a part of you. Let them keep the things they love the old chair, the pictures, the simple memories. These are pieces of their life. Don’t take them away too quickly. Removing them may feel like removing pieces of their heart.
Give them time, love, and comfort. Hold their hand, just like they held yours when you learned to walk. Create new memories, even as they hold on to the old ones. Let them live with dignity and joy, not with loneliness or regret.
Listen to their advice, even if it sounds outdated. It comes from a lifetime of experience and love. Celebrate their small wins. Support them in hard times, just as they supported you.
As they reach the final part of life’s journey, walk beside them with love. Make their days brighter and their hearts lighter.
“Honor your father and your mother, and your days shall be long upon the earth.” Exodus 20:12
Let’s give back the love they once gave us without limit.
