09.01.25 The 4 day McDaniel yard sale!!.

We are so busy it took a month for me to finish this!

As I shared in a previous post, we are selling our house. Because of that, we spent a week in early August rounding up goodies from every corner of the house and outside to put in our yard sale. I can’t believe all the things we had that we don’t need and/or don’t use, ever! Every day I priced more and more at drastically low prices such as $1, 50 cents and 25 cents. Even my decoupaged crafts that sell between $4 and $8 were priced at $1.

We had for sale Christmas and Fall decorations, vintage decorations and kitchen items, crafts, electronics, furniture, shoes, clothes, household items, a lot of hunting clothes and gear, a bunch of free stuff and more!

We will have another yard sale when the house sells, featuring more and probably better items. For now, we have to keep enough furniture to live and some decorations for the walls.we even had a small table for checkout with Kendal serving as our checkout money man!

We bought 10 plastic tablecloths in case of rain, but it only rained for 10 minutes once. At the end of the day, we covered 10 of the 13 tables to discourage nighttime visitors who might want to shop for free overnight.

People came all morning, well before our 4 pm start time. We let them see what we’d put out and made money before it even started! Between 4 and 7, we had around 35 cars, some of which were full of people! It was fun talking to our customers, seeing what items interested them the most, and telling them about our house for sale plans. As I showed off our furniture for sale items to interested visitors, I guided them through the house and out to the back patio, where they all fell in love! They thought the price of $195,000 was very reasonable and that it should sell quickly! I hope they are right! By 7pm we were really ready to shut it down for the night! We were in bed by 8 pm!!

August 9, 2025 – Day two hours were from 8 to 4.

Our first customer didn’t show up until 9:30. We were a little worried! Then throughout the day more people came and shopped. The heat was terrible so we moved our rockers to wherever the shade was all throughout the day!

When friends came we were able to spend time visiting which we loved!

We sold a living room chair, the computer monitor, and two small tables so the furniture clearance had a good start!

We planned to have a half price sale Sunday evening. Around 3 on Saturday we changed that to an “Everything is Free” sale starting at 4 when the regular sale ended. I posted the Free sale on Marketplace and on 20 “FOR SALE” Facebook groups and my Facebook page.

People started coming and came until it started getting dark. We enjoyed watching from inside.

The free sale continued for 2 more days. I found more items in our home to add and people kept coming! A young lady picked up the three boxes of goodies that represented the last of the goodies!

Finally we were down to pallets and crates. a man from Folsom picked up all of those and our yard was empty!

We made money, cleared our house of a lot of “stuff,” had fun and we wore ourselves out in the process.

One lesson learned was to only have the sale on Friday evening and not include Saturday. 3/4 of our sales were from Friday evening. It was much cooler and more people came so I’ll try that next time!

After we recovered from the yard sale we worked on completing our to do list to get the house ready to sell.

We rented storage space in Livingston to store things we want out of the house and want to keep when we move!

I will be having a second yard sale on Sept. 19th. My friend Cindy is going to join me and sell some of her goodies!

Yall come back now ya’ hear!!
