Our precious poodle Buddy has had a big adjustment in his freedom since we moved to the RV park. This post took me many, many hours to put together. I guess it’s because it’s about Buddy that I wanted to have the best pictures and write the most accurate content. All pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them. Anyway, enjoy!
In Amite, he had acres of woods and open fields to roam and play in. When he was younger, Buddy and his best friend Benny (who was a young pup) spent their days chasing the cows across the street, growling at every leaf that fell from the oak trees in the Fall and chasing every car and school bus down the road. They were so good at it that they would never have gotten hurt by a car tire or the car!. Couldn’t find any of the videos I took of Buddy and Benny running around all over the fields together, so here’s a few photos of the two of them.

As he has aged and with the loss of his friend Benny, Buddy has slowed down a lot. Before we moved he had stopped going wild and would just bark when a vehicle went down the road and didn’t even budge to chase after them. He no longer took long walks in the woods and only went down the hill to the pond a couple of times a week. His days were spent resting on our recliners in the living room whether we were in them or not!

When we were outside he had his own reclining lawn chair he would lay in watching everything from that one spot.
When we first decided to move to the RV Park we were a bit concerned about how it would affect Buddy’s freedom. Then, after paying close attention to how inactive Buddy really is we realized he wasn’t actually using the open spaces any longer. Also, we knew that what was most important to Buddy wasn’t actually using all the space he had to roam. What is really most important to Buddy is being with Kendal and me, wherever we are.
While driving around the park before we moved we saw a fenced in patio at an RV site down the road. It looked perfect for Buddy to still have some freedom to run around without a leash. I started looking for one and found a good price on a slightly used one in Slidell. We had not moved in yet so we stored it in our storage unit until we were ready to put it up.
A few weeks ago we talked to the lady that has the fence. Her name is Sue. I’ve gotten to know her since then and really like her a lot! She was more than helpful and has two big dogs in her fenced area. She gave us tips on installing the fence and ways to stabilize the parts that went across cement and couldn’t be driven into the dirt. This is her fence.

We learned that to keep Buddy out from under the RV we’d need to get chicken wire and bricks. The wire is secured to the RV and the bricks hold the wire in place on the ground so Buddy can’t crawl under it to escape.
This was a major project that took about four days to complete. I’ve never been so up close and personal with an RV’s underside as I was getting the wire attached to the RVs underside.

We finished off the installation with Gorilla tape to help the wire fencing stay attached to the metal underside where it couldn’t be attached with zip ties. I am also now a zip tie expert having used at least 50 ties to attach the chicken wire to everywhere I could! The chicken wire is mostly invisible to anyone seeing the whole fence from the street so that made my “I like everything to look nice” side happy!
The best part about this is the freedom this gives Buddy to go outside untethered when he is staying in our yard.

Buddy hasn’t tried to get out of his new fenced in play yard and we are very thankful for that. He’s made friends with Charlie the cat next door. They sniff each other through the fence and neither growls or hisses! He also has a dog friend on the other side. We left the gate open recently by accident. Where did Buddy go when he escaped? To see his doggie friend Lulu, our neighbor on the other side!
He still needs a long walk daily on his leash around the park but I enjoy the exercise while walking him and overall his life has improved. Having the fenced yard it’s much easier on us to just open the door and let him out in the morning rather than putting him on a leash and staying outside with him when we were really not awake yet!
Ya’ll have known Buddy since we rescued him a few years ago. Now you know he’s settled well into his new home in Livingston. He’s still the sweetest doggie ever!

How do y’all like my tacky RV park Christmas fence decorations?!!
Y’all come back now, ya’ hear!

Reach out to someone in need this week!
