08.06.26 Get to know Louisiana’s Senator John Kennedy

Having Senator John Kennedy represent the State of Louisiana in the United States Senate makes me so very proud. This man loves our state, loves our country and most importantly loves our Lord! When he opens his mouth something truthful, brilliant and funny comes out. If he says it, he’s done his homework and knows the truth and the facts. I read this article below recently and thought others around the country would like to find out who John Kennedy really is.

On April 28, 1990, a Louisiana attorney named John Neely Kennedy married a fellow lawyer named Rebecca “Becky” Stulb, and the marriage that followed would outlast three losing Senate campaigns, two political party changes, and a career most people assumed had already peaked.

Kennedy grew up in Zachary, Louisiana, a small town about fifteen miles north of Baton Rouge, the kind of place that seems worlds away from where he eventually landed academically. He graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1973, then earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, where he served as executive editor of the Virginia Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. From there he crossed the Atlantic to Magdalen College at Oxford, walking away with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree with first class honors, a credential that put him in rarefied academic company most Louisiana politicians never come close to touching.

Yet the man who studied under legal scholars in England built his entire political identity on sounding like the guy next door at a crawfish boil, a contrast that confused plenty of people who only knew him from his viral Senate hearing one liners.

Kennedy started his political career as a Democrat, serving as special counsel to Governor Buddy Roemer in the late 1980s and later becoming Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Revenue in 1996. He ran for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in 2004 and lost, then tried again in 2008 as a newly minted Republican, having switched parties in 2007, and lost that race too.

Most careers do not survive two statewide losses in a row, but Kennedy kept serving as Louisiana’s State Treasurer for seventeen years, a job most voters barely notice, quietly managing billions in state investments and clawing back millions in unclaimed property for ordinary residents. When he finally won a Senate seat in 2016, backing Donald Trump’s campaign that same year, it came after more than a decade of rejection that would have ended most political ambitions for good.

Through every defeat and every reinvention, Becky Kennedy stayed beside him, an attorney in her own right with a law degree from Tulane, raising their son Preston in Madisonville while her husband commuted the long road between Louisiana and Washington.

They became founding members of North Cross United Methodist Church, building a private life rooted in faith and family even as Kennedy’s public persona grew louder on the national stage. The Oxford scholar and the small town Democrat turned conservative firebrand turned out to be the same person all along.

The difference between men and dogs, is dogs don’t allow the dumbest and most inept members to become leaders of the pack.

Americans are thinking, there are some good members of Congress but we can’t figure out what they are good for. Others are thinking, how did these morons make it through the birth canal.

I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer’s point of view, but I can’t seem to get my head that far up my ass.
